In this post fossil energy future scenario, oil rigs are not needed anymore. At the same time, the sea level has gone up, climate kept heating up and parts of the world became uninhabitable. For these reasons, the oil rigs are reused as artificial islands, as floating cities.
The focus of this project was the development of a generative design workflow in Grasshopper. In this case it generates a vast number of designs for the oil rigs and chooses the design with the best rooftop garden to living area ratio.
The workflow was then extended with a connection to Revit via CSV. By streaming certain information from Grasshopper to Revit/Dynamo, it was possible to rebuild the design in Revit. This workflow shows the possibilities of combining the strength from Grasshopper in designing and modeling and the efficiency of Revit for a further project development.
